Introduction
The project was developed alongside a programme of creative engagement with Thornhill School and The Chiltern School, exploring sound, play and the surrounding park through workshops and audio recordings.
The creative engagement sessions involved using a microphone to record a variety of park and play related sounds, such as a ball bouncing, a mobile phone ringing or crisp packet being scrunched! The recordings were then viewed using a digital ‘Oscilloscope‘ to showcase the different digital sound waves. The recordings were then slowed down and speeded up to show how audio can create a variety of visual shapes and patterns when played at different speeds. Try playing the 2 or more sounds below (if your device allows) TOGETHER and see what they sound like.g
Interpretation panels will be installed alongside the bandstand, presenting material from the engagement programme and providing access to audio recordings created through the project.
A dedicated project website also provides access to material generated through the programme:

Wave Generators – There are four main waveforms and they are fundamental to creating sounds (synthesizing). These four waves are: Sine waves, Square waves, Sawtooth waves, and Triangle waves. A waveform is a shape that repeats itself and these repeating shapes and values are determined by a wave’s attributes. These attributes include: wavelength, frequency, period, and amplitude. Together they allow us to hear different sounds with different pitches, harmonics, and timbres.
