Me and my good friend got into Kingston Power Station in the late 1980’s before it was demolished for residential flats. It was incredible, the industrial scale of the building, the machinery, and the control panels. The site was in a state of disrepair. We often wandered around looking for opportunities to explore our local neighbourhood. The photographs I took there show an influence on my current artwork and practice.
Kingston Power Station in London closed on October 27, 1980. The coal-fired generating station, located on the Thames, ceased operations on this date, and its two 250-foot chimneys were later demolished in 1994.
I found these negatives recently and have only roughly photographed them on my iphone. Not sure I want to clean them up. Rough and ready, like Jon and me back in the day.
