Project Title ‘OSCILLATOR’
Date 2026 - IN DEVELOPMENT

INTRODUCTION

Console by model-maker Joe Pearman

OSCILLATOR is a short experimental film in development.

The work uses original field recordings captured during a recent trip to New York City with a Tascam DR-05X portable recorder. These sounds are processed through software that assigns them responsive behaviours, generating visuals that react dynamically to the audio signal.

Rather than scientifically mapping sound to image, the film takes an interpretative approach to replicate waveforms. Additional audio elements are created using a digital Moog synthesiser.

OSCILLATOR explores themes of surveillance and alternative storytelling. Its visual language draws on the aesthetics of sound synthesis and waveform imagery, with inspiration from the “listening scene” in The Conversation (1974), directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

An audio oscillator is an electronic tool used in sound testing and synthesis. It produces basic waveforms—sine, sawtooth, square, and triangle—which form the foundation of electronic sound.

INVITATION TO COLLABORATE

Currently in development, OSCILLATOR is conceived as an evolving project open to collaboration. This could involve expanding the film or developing a new, related work.

Future outcomes may include a site-specific, temporary, or permanent interactive sculpture or installation.

Sound engineers and artist, composers, writers, and musicians interested in collaborating are invited to get in touch.

Viewers are invited to play the below Vimeo clips simulataneosly in order to overlap the audio sequences.
