Tom Pearman was commissioned to create a series of architectural glass artworks for the new Lottery-funded London Print Studio on Harrow Road, London.

The work explores perspective, spatial awareness and the translation of three-dimensional form onto a flat transparent surface. Across sixteen glass panels, geometric structures, displaced planes and transparent colour create uncertain relationships between real and represented space, allowing the surrounding street, architecture and movement beyond the glazing to become part of the work.

Developed with the project architect and engineer, the designs were silk-screen printed in fired enamel onto toughened safety glass. The process combines the precision of printmaking with the luminosity of stained glass, while providing the durability required for a permanent architectural installation.

Extending across the building’s approximately 30-metre glazed frontage, the artwork was designed to operate from both inside and outside, changing with viewpoint, daylight, reflection and the activity of the street.
