MILL ROAD DEPOT SITE PUBLIC ART COMMISSION – DEVELOPED BY CAMBRIDGE INVESTMENT PARTNERSHIP – ONGOING

INTRODUCTION

The project is being commissioned to enrich the new development and enhance the public space provided through the scheme. The focus for the artwork is to be the shared communal spaces and clear, legible routes through the development.

As the appointed artist I will be required to develop an artwork, or series of artworks, which enhances the setting for the new residential development on the former depot site, referencing the distinctive context of Mill Road.

ARTWORKS

The current theme of the artworks I will be making for the housing development is based upon ‘switches’. These switches could be residential, commercial or industrial and in particular I am interested in the associated labelling of them.

LOCATION

currently my main approach would be to disperse the artworks around the site.   I propose that the paving artwork is in ‘close’ proximity’ to the wall-mounted enamel work.

SIZE

Vitreous enamel / wall mounted: These could be in a number of sizes if dispersed around the site. They could blend into their environment and others could be more prominent.

Paving: Currently I am looking at a bespoke size of granite paving that would be a series of 750X400 parallelograms that would fit into the current 300×200 layout.

QUANTITY

At present I propose that there would be 12 vitreous enamel wall-mounted switches. Each with corresponding ‘by-product’ inlaid into granite paving.
