‘SPACE HELMET’ is part of an ongoing project exploring narratives of space exploration, science-fiction film making and lo-tech special effects.

–
For the first time Tom has employed curved glass. In previous public art projects he has utilised water jet glass cutting technology to enable irregular bespoke outer perimeter shapes on float (flat) glass using dxf CAD files for their design.
Using white paint on the inner surface, the glass has a flawless appearance, similar to that of an animation cel. He has applied graphics to the outer surface and a slight appearance of depth is achieved because of the glass thickness.
The aim is to use the helmet as a prop for a sci-fi short film. It is hoped that there will be an original score to accompany it – more details to follow.
